Music Shelf Review Roundup - October 5th, 2024
featuring a collection of new music that Mustard recommends you treat your human ears too!
Kieramari - Kryptonite
A common expression amongst humans is “it’s as smooth as butter.” This typically describes a situation that has gone well. As an acquaintance of butter, to be frank, they have nothing on Kieramari’s debut release Kryptonite. From the opening few seconds of this song Mustard knew that no one else is as smooth as Kieramari. It is jazzy, soulful, seductive, and will have you vibing. Mustard is unable to get goosebumps (because they are a condiment) but this release gave them goosebumps. As the song goes on Mustard wished they owned a late-night jazz club called Kryptonite. Kieramari would be the featured performer every night in the establishment. Kryptonite not only is the name of the establishment but would act as an underlying factor for future dates that take place there.
Mustard cannot wait to see what Kieramari has planned for the future.
Elfi - dream of me
Ahead of its release Elfi allowed Mustard an early preview of their debut single. It is one of the perks of running a music publication. To say that they were blown away by this release is an understatement. dream of me opens with asking listeners “do you still dream of me?” and proceeds to keep you in a dreamlike stance. This is one of the most beautiful songs Mustard has heard. Heck. It is one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded. It is haunting yet relaxing. dream of me is chamomile and lavender for your human ears.
Elfi will be releasing their EP “Bitter Into Glitter” in November. Mustard cannot express enough how excited they are for that. Looking forward to it.
Exit 18 - Glitter On
Mustard was introduced to Exit 18 via Instagram. They are grateful for the social media platform for bringing Exit 18 their way. Exit 18, based out of Boston, provides listeners a hedonistic escape on their latest release. They have observed that life can be tough for humans. Often times they are thrown obstacles they can be tough to overcome. These obstacles can challenge a human’s mental and physical health. Thankfully applying glitter will make life more bearable. Glitter is a fun decoration item that often brings joy to humans. Listening to this song will bring you the same amount of joy. Simply put - this song kicks ass and will inspire you to throw hands inside a Chuck E Cheese during a birthday party you didn’t want to go but your mum guilted you into.
Sixth Wonder - Esclate
Metal is one of Mustard’s favorite genres. Something about Metal makes them feel good. Well as good as a condiment can feel. It motivates them to not put up with any of Ketchup’s crap. It inspires them to move forward and accomplish what they want. Sixth Wonder’s brand of Djent metal is exactly the type of metal that Mustard loves. Esclate feels cinematic in its production. Something major just happened within the film and the songs acts as the protagonist’s inner monologue. Lead vocalist Rebeka Kirk does an incredible job of making you feel for them. You can feel the pain in their voice and it makes you want to root for them. You want to see them get the justice they deserve. There is a cadence in their vocals that makes Sixth Wonder a band that should be on your radar.
Mustard would wait for Sixth Wonder. Will you?
Lucia Dostal - Marlborough St
Marlborough St by Lucia Dostal floored Mustard. They are waiting to be picked up by an underpaid and underappreciated store worker. Dostal is full of passion and fire on their newest release. They imagine seeing this song performed live would cause all of the audience a shared out of body experience. Inspired by a street that stretches from back bay to downtown crossing in Boston it has provided Dostal the creative fuel to craft something really special. Like Boston itself Dostal is not afraid to throw punches and tell ya how it is.
This song is one of four on Dostal’s newest EP Wild Child which came out yesterday on all platforms. As a condiment who grew up in New England this EP means a lot to Mustard. It brings up cherished memories in their bottle cap with friends and family. Dostal is a versatile musician; a chameleon within genres able to succeed at all.
Mustard is elated to see what Lucia Dostal has planned next.
