Music Shelf Review Roundup - 9/7/24
Featuring Allie Sandt, Bad Operation, Megan From Work, Lenox Monroe, Goldfish Funeral, Jason Didner, and Dasie
Allie Sandt - The Right Time
The Right Time by Allie Sandt is the spiritual successor to your favorite Steely Dan record. Deacon no longer has the blues because Allie Sandt has it covered. Any major dude will tell you that. The Right Time is one of the grooviest tracks your human feet will have the pleasure of dancing to. If you are like a condiment like Mustard you hope a human will grab you by your bottle and shake you well while getting funky to their sophomore single. There is no wrong time to get groovy while listening to The Right Time.
BAD OPERATION - I Don’t Wanna Know
I Don’t Wanna Know by Bad Operation has an undeniable groove. This single (along with their 2020 self-titled debut album) is infectious. Typically humans smartly try to avoid getting infected but in the case of Bad Operation they recommend letting that infection spread. Mustard has observed humans describe things they like as “sick.” This single is exactly that as is the rest of their discography. Bad Operation has teased more new music via their exclusive newsletter and on social media. Mustard looks forward to their future releases.
Megan From Work - Girl Suit
Girl Suit by Megan From Work kicks so much ass that Doc Martin is trying to embed the single into their upcoming line of boots. It is the title track of Megan From Work’s upcoming debut record. Megan emphasizes on this track that they would rather be “honest than consistent.” As a condiment fascinated by human (and their nature) it feels as it perhaps Megan From Work has been wearing a false-fitting suit. The suit works for others but not for themselves. Megan From Work is ready to be honest. She is not the same as they used to be. They hope you have also grown and learned from past experiences. Just because the suit fits does not mean you need to wear it. That is the beauty of being a human being. Human beings are complex. Just like the fits they check sometimes on social media. Those fits, like being a human, are layered full of personality and depth. Just like this release by Megan From Work. Mustard cannot wait for Megan From Work’s debut album.
Lenox Monroe - FREDDIE MERCURY
If you are a human having an identity crisis they have the perfect song for you. FREDDIE MERCURY by Lenox Monroe will help you answer the following questions:
who am I?
what am I supposed to be doing with my life?
what is my purpose?
did I really order Red Robin steak fry seasoning at 3 AM off Amazon?
Okay that last one may be pushing it. Nonetheless, Lenox Monroe’s “Freddie Mercury” will inspire you to be your true genuine self. Even if there are some days you are unsure who that person is. One thing that has drawn Mustard to Lenox Monroe is their authenticity. They are not trying to fool you into thinking they are someone they are not. Monroe is a captivating songwriter whose genuine nature will have you searching for more of their discography.
Goldfish Funeral - Christopher Nolan
When a human says that all new music sounds the same Mustard wants you to direct them to Goldfish Funeral. Goldfish Funeral; the musical project of Jack Bobley is some of the most innovative and creative music Mustard has had the pleasure of listening to.
Joined by 2 Star Goldfish Funeral’s Christopher Nolan keeps that innovation going. There is something so unique about Goldfish Funeral’s sound that it is hard to describe or compare them to anyone else. On their newest track Goldfish Funeral remarks “I don’t know anything / Christopher Nolan” referencing the sometimes confusing nature of that human directors films. Nolan films can be polarizing. Similarly to those who listen to Goldfish Funeral for the first time. That polarization though Mustard believes works to the benefit of both.
Jason Didner - Underwater Basket Weaving
Mustard is an alumni of Greendale Community College. That is right. A condiment received an Associates from a community college. Its accreditation is still under investigation.
Nonetheless, Jason Didner’s Underwater Basket Weaving is a course that would 100% be offered at Greendale Community College. Underwater Basket Weaving by Didner is a fun, satirical, and catchy. What seems like it would be an easy blow off class is anything but. Didner’s sense of humor is on full display on their newest single. If you are considering enrolling into a fun sounding course at your local community college this song will remind you to be cautious.
- Modern Mona Lisa
Modern Mona Lisa is one of the best modern pop songs. That sounds like hyperbole but Mustard genuinely believes that Dasie’s brand of “Petty Pop” has the trademarks of a certified pop hit. Since its release Mustard has been unable to get Modern Mona Lisa out of their bottle cap. Listening to this song will boost your confidence and help you feel incredible. Because you are. Even when your human brain says you are not. Do not listen to your brain. You are a piece of art. Do not sell yourself short. As a condiment who observes humans they have noticed that humans are capable of so many wonderful things. Let yourself talk to that cute human in a plaid shirt drinking a iced matcha. Write that book. Take yourself on a date to the movies. You are a Modern Mona Lisa. Embrace it.
