I love Gabbie saying how real mix tapes were HARD to make, and talking about ZINES. Stuff that took time, trial and error, rolling up the sleeves and making 'em. And like Cass said, artists getting out there and playing on the streets, playing shows - turns out the hard work is the good work! Super fun!
I LOVE THIS CHAT! So many valuable points and experiences to learn from. Which leads to a scary question: what is “gobliny”? I feel out of the cool kids lingo loop on that one.
I won’t get into my predictions for 2025… too long a list and the established “big boys” won’t like it 😄
Hello! That means a lot. Mustard tries to create a fun and well-rounded interview. Doing these interviews is their passion. Love speaking with humans about their art!
you are an excellent interviewer. i really mean that. many people have told me i should do interviews, and there’s a reason i don’t. it is HARD. i know where my skills lie, and i know my limitations.
Interviews ARE HARD! After doing a couple, I was definitely left with a “ok fuck this” taste in my mouth. Not that my interviewees weren’t wonderful. They were amazing. It was just a me thing. I decided it wasn’t really my jam.
that is how Mustard feels about reviews. They know that musicians love them and appreciate them. Mustard just has such a hard time writing them. They will try their best but feel most comfortable with written interviews.
Mustard has. They feel a lot more comfortable doing interviews via email and print form. A year or so ago they did do some video/audio interviews but they just didn't feel right compared to these.
Mustard is elated to hear that! Music Shelf has always been interview-focused. They are trying to make each interview feel like a profile or feature you would read in a magazine. Just from the POV of a condiment haha.
100% get it. I’ve done some interviews (Zoom style) and it’s not an easy gig at all when it doesn’t feel completely natural, which for me, it did not. I don’t know about other people but I enjoy interviews in written form as much as any other.
Fantastic interview! But being OCD I couldn’t help but notice that on question #11, we didn’t get Cassidy’s answer. Is that part of the bonus remix version, saved for the mixtape?

Please don’t look into it too much 😂
Great interview, Mustard! Enjoyed immensely.

Has Mustard considered starting a podcast?
